My daughter celebrated her first birthday last September 8, 2008. We chose not to indulge ourselves by giving her a grand bash, like most families do here in the Philippines. We rather opted for the simpler, more meaningful and cozier set-up. A pre -birthday dinner with just my brother's family. After all, she does not like crowds and she might have thrown a fit if she saw people she hardly knew hovering about, attempting to take a good look of her.
Don't get me wrong though, our Addi ( short for Adeleine Danielle) is a cheerful little girl-when she warms up, she has this ready smile and chuckle. Her best friend and play pal is her big brother, we all adore her. My husband and I just decided to forgo with the traditional first birthday party-so as not to ruin her big day either.
Maybe for her second birthday, she can have her party, with balloons and a clown-whatever, but I guess, the real essence of having birthdays special is to be with the persons you love, party or not :)
